On the weekend of October 26-27, Hopkinton Public Library will host a series of events to celebrate the one year anniversary of its re-opening after a $11.7 million expansion, restoration and renovation. The events are jointly coordinated by Hopkinton Library, Hopkinton Library Board of Trustees, Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library, and Hopkinton Public Library Foundation.
The Friends of the Library will kick off the celebration on Friday, October 26, by hosting its “Books in Bloom Opening Night” in the Strong Room at the Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Gorgeous, book-themed flower arrangements will be on display at the Library from October 27th until October 31st. Guests may explore the Library to find the imaginative flower arrangements created by the Hopkinton Garden Club to complement favorite children’s books. Those who successfully find all the floral displays will receive a coupon for a free book at the Friends’ Fall Book Sale on November 2-3. The Friends will also have their new “Friends’ Brew” coffee for sale.
Library Trustees will offer seasonal cider donuts and drinks in the Strong Room on Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and offer guided tours of the Library on the hour. Talented local musician Steve Spector will play in the Strong Room from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday.
At 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, Hopkinton Public Library Foundation will dedicate the 1000 Homes for Hopkinton Public Library Plaque. Residents can also view the new, permanent, stainless steel Naming Opportunity plaques recently installed at the Library. Since 2013, hundreds of Hopkinton families and local businesses joined “1000 Homes for Hopkinton Library” by giving or pledging $1,000 (or more) to the Library project. Many also claimed a Naming Opportunity, which allowed individuals, families and businesses the opportunity to affix their name to a permanent piece of our new Library via an individual plaque. Through both of these programs, the Hopkinton community gave nearly $700,000 of the $1 million raised for the Library renovation and expansion.
